It is delivered both cleaned[older glues were bitumen based and generally must be removed before installation-this is especially true if you are planning to install your reclaimed flooring over underfloor heating]and as is.
It is possible to install the parquet with some modern glues without cleaning but this is where you wish to achieve a truly old look.
The tongue and groove usually must be cleaned also by means of a chisel or wire brush.
O Flynns offer a full cleaning service-this is typically 12 to 15 euro per square yard.
Reclaimed parquet varies considerably in price depending on species but typically is 37 to 43 euro per square yard plus vat.
It will be necessary to sand your floor once installed by means of a drum sander, edger and buff sander but with a little time ,patience and hard work the results are truly extraordinary. Please see our gallery for before and after photos.
Salvaging exotic parquet is our speciality and we will happlily quote you a full installed price or supply only.
Salvaging reclaimed parquet is one of the ways you can truly help the planet-what better way to help the enviroment and your own carbon footprint by reusing something that was previously installed.
WHY SHOULD I BUY RECLAIMED?
better for the enviroment-The forests across the earth are one of the principal lungs of the earth-wood grows, absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere, stores it and releases oxygen back into the atmosphere .Forestry in Ireland and in Europe grows in land mass every year. Most Western and European governments have state forestry bodies where our forestry and the bio diversity within the forests is rigourously monitored .The overall forestry industry and related wood industries[lumber for construction]is highly fuel and energy efficent.Every m3 of wood used in place of other building products reduces CO2 emissions by 1 metric tonne.Every m3 of wood flooring has approx 5 kg of carbon stored within it.This carbon will only be released upon decay.
better by design-you cannot really achieve the look of a reclaimed floor without it being an actual reclaimed floor.
Better quality-as with all timber the older it is the better it is in terms of grade ,colour and density
Better for your pocket-reclaimed flooring would [especially in the case of wenge/panga panga] would generally be more reasonably priced per m2 than a new floor.
